Daniel Fast 2017

Hi Peeps,

It’s that time of year again…. time to get ready for the Daniel Fast.

I started on Jan. 2nd, this will last for 21 days. It takes at least 21 days to change your way of thinking and to create a new or break a habit. So, for the next 21 days let’s focus on breaking the chains of emotional, physical, and spiritual bondage. If you notice I didn’t mention food, this fast is more than food. It’s about connecting with God, allowing him to help you, leaning on him for strength, and making a sacrifice. In this case, it’s a food sacrifice.

This year my focus is peace. I  want the kind of peace this surpasses all understanding. The kind of peace that is unshakable and unmovable. In the midst of any storm, I want to have peace.

In my efforts to find peace, I am embarking on the path of Yoga. I have been during yoga for the past week, I can’t explain to you that place of peace it puts me in. My daughter also loves yoga. I will share more about that in another post. It allows me to decompress, releasing all the stressors of the day, and leave them on my mat.

Now let’s talk food, you may be wondering, what can I eat on this fast???

Okay, is pretty simple. Just think, no processed foods.  You can eat fruit, vegetables, grains, and oats. Grocery shopping will be a breeze because you will stay in the produce section for the most part. Basically, all of my groceries come from the produce and freezer section.

The easiest way to conquer the fast, it to be prepared, and prep your meals. If you have food on hand you are less likely to grab the wrong foods. Also, if you can afford it throw out all the junk food. Doing this will you avoid any temptations because they won’t be there. Hopefully, the Daniel Fast will change your way of thinking about food, so you will make healthier choices after the fast.

In my efforts to incorporate more organic foods into my family’s diets, I started buying in bulk from Costco. Costco is very budget friendly for plant-based organic foods. Our monthly food budget is approx $400, so it works for us.
